About this event

The SOGE Council’s mission is to educate the College on issues of sexuality and gender in order to create a secure and inclusive community that embraces all forms of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. Any Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) employee who wants to support a more inclusive College community is invited to join.

Membership runs on the academic year, starting with the first day of fall semester and ending with the conclusion of summer semester. New members are accepted on a rolling basis. Membership is renewed annually with the payment of dues.

Committees:

SOGE members are invited to serve on one or more committees to further specific goals and objectives throughout the academic year. Please select below.

• Campus Pride Index — The Campus Pride Index breaks down LGBTQ-friendly inclusion factors at participating colleges to help LGBTQ+ students and their families find LGBTQ-friendly campuses. This committee evaluates the College on various factors each academic year and makes adjustments to the index as needed. They identify areas of improvement and bring them to the council with suggested resolutions.

• Membership — This committee works with the Integrated Communications department to create and execute plans and materials to help promote and grow SOGE membership. The committee also works with SOGE’s executive team to identify and coordinate participation in College events that could help raise awareness of the council and its mission.

• Partnerships — This committee works internally with the Black American Council, Hispanic Council, Women in Transition and the Veterans Initiative to build intersectional programming for the Tri-C community. Members also work externally to build partnerships with local LGBTQ+ agencies.

• Programming — This committee creates comprehensive programming and ongoing support for College initiatives such as Lavender Graduation, an alumni group and a mentorship program.
